The American artist, Winslow Homer (1836-1910), received early recognition for his portrayals of the Civil War for the magazine, Harper's Weekly. Following the Civil War, he produced light-filled scenes of such locations as the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Adirondack Mountains, Gloucester Massachusetts as well as small towns and waters in Canada, Bermuda and the U.K. From 1882 until his death in 1901, his favorite scenes included the dramatic and sometimes turbulent seascapes near his home in Prout's Neck, Maine. He will screen one of his recently produced films and will lead a discussion about how he turned to filmmaking, chooses and researches his subjects, and the processes necessary create a finished documentary Bill is the co-founder and Partner of Uncommon Productions, a documentary and feature film production company with offices in Waltham and Los Angeles.
