Beginning Printmaking: The workshop will consist of instruction on basic printmaking techniques including gelitin print making, mono printing, collage and simple photo transfers. Students should bring simple photographs that we will photocopy to use in our art. The workshop will be user friendly and the students will walk away with skill and knowledge they can put into practice in their own art making lives. The end product will be a set of 5 cards with envelopes, but their knowledge will have grown ten fold in the printmaking field!

ARTISTS OF PLACE with Judy Schurgin: The American artist, Winslow Homer (1836-1910), received early recognition for his portrayals of the Civil War for the magazine, Harper's Weekly. Following the Civil War, he produced light-filled scenes of such locations as the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Adirondack Mountains, Gloucester Massachusetts as well as small towns and waters in Canada, Bermuda and the U.K. From 1882 until his death in 1901, his favorite scenes included the dramatic and sometimes turbulent seascapes near his home in Prout's Neck, Maine.

He will screen one of his recently produced films and will lead a discussion about how he turned to filmmaking, chooses and researches his subjects, and the processes necessary create a finished documentary
Bill is the co-founder and Partner of Uncommon Productions, a documentary and feature film production company with offices in Waltham and Los Angeles. Bill is also the co-founder and President of Blu Homes, an ecologically-friendly prefabricated home builder headquartered in Waltham, and co-founder and a current board member of World Connect, a MA-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women and children in under-resourced communities.

Build-A-Bug: In Build-A-Bug students learn about simple machines, gears and energy while working in pairs to construct a LEGO bug built from our kits. Then they attach motors to make their bugs move using energy generated from a hand crank and race their bugs. Living in New Mexico from 1949 until her death in 1986, her favorite scenes included the rolling hills, sinuous rivers, shrubs, trees and bleached bones located near her homes in Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu.
